Desk setup tips for a more comfortable workday

Memory foam cushion on a home office chair

You don't need an expensive office chair to feel better at your desk. Small changes add up.

1. Screen at eye level

Your eyes should hit the top third of the screen when you look straight ahead. A stack of books under a laptop works fine.

2. Feet flat, knees at 90°

If your feet don't reach the floor, use a box or footrest. Cold feet? A heated foot warmer under the desk doubles as a footrest.

3. A softer seat

Hard chairs get uncomfortable fast. A memory foam seat cushion spreads the pressure and makes long sitting sessions more comfortable.

4. Warm hands type better

Cold offices and home offices make stiff fingers. Try heated fingerless gloves or a heated mouse pad.

5. Move every 45 minutes

Stand up, roll your shoulders, look out of a window for 20 seconds. Set a quiet timer if you forget.

6. A short neck break

Lunch break or between meetings: ten minutes with a cordless neck massager or a warm wrap is an easy way to reset before the afternoon.
